Why Chrome Powder
Does Not Stick

Identify what “does not stick” actually means

Separate complete rejection, isolated bald spots, cloudy transfer and powder that rubs in but later wipes away. These symptoms do not necessarily share one cause.

Photograph the failure before adding more pigment. Note the receiving product, lamp, cure time and delay between curing and rubbing.

Check the receiving layer first

Correct the cure window

Remove invisible contamination

Dust, oil, lint, glove residue and product accidentally carried onto the surface can create isolated gaps. Prepare a clean workstation and keep the cured receiving layer untouched before chrome application.

Use complete placement before polishing

A no-wipe surface is not automatically a chrome surface

No-wipe describes the absence of a dispersion layer after the specified cure. It does not guarantee that every pigment will polish into that surface. Formulas can differ in hardness, surface character and intended use. Begin with a product specifically recommended for chrome or with a tested combination supplied by the manufacturer.

Apply the receiving layer evenly and protect it from dust, oil, cleanser, accidental touch and scratches. Thin spots can produce bald patches, while pooling may cure differently and distort reflection. Do not wipe the cured surface unless the protocol explicitly requires it.

When combining brands, test the complete system before client use. A successful social-media demonstration does not establish compatibility with a different lamp, pigment, layer thickness or top coat.

Diagnose cure without guessing by wattage

Lamp wattage alone does not prove that a gel is correctly cured. Product chemistry, lamp wavelength output, layer thickness, exposure time, lamp condition and finger position all matter. Follow the current directions for the selected product and compatible lamp instead of shortening or extending exposure randomly until powder appears to stick.

If a fresh labelled swatch works while the client nail does not, compare application thickness, placement in the lamp and delay before rubbing. If several identical swatches fail, confirm the product combination and equipment. Do not use a soft, damaged or visibly under-cured layer as the foundation for more product.

The goal is a repeatable protocol, not a universal cure-window trick. Record the exact combination that succeeds and retest whenever a component changes.

Control pigment amount, placement and pressure

Place a small amount across the surface before polishing. Work with overlapping movements and enough pressure to refine the reflection without scratching the cured layer. Loading one spot with excessive powder can create loose material and grain, while beginning with aggressive rubbing can damage a surface that was not ready.

Use a clean applicator reserved for the effect. Oil, lint and pigment from a previous shade can interrupt adhesion or alter color. Examine the nail under angled light, including sidewalls and the free edge. Add only the small amount needed to complete a missed area rather than repeatedly covering the entire nail.
