Choose chrome by the finished effect, not the jar
Begin with the visual goal. A mirror finish prioritizes continuous reflection. Pearl emphasizes a soft veil and fine highlight. Iridescent powders shift over the base without fully hiding it. Multichrome effects move between colors as the viewing angle changes. Dimensional powders create a more complex layered reflection.

Let the base color design the undertone
Many chrome powders allow the base to influence the result. Black can deepen contrast and emphasize a color shift. White can reveal a lighter, airier undertone. Nude may soften the effect. A coordinating color can make the chrome appear richer and more intentional.

Build a smooth, compatible receiving surface
Chrome magnifies surface irregularities. Refine the structure, remove dust and apply the receiving layer evenly. Flooded sidewalls, ridges, lint and uneven top coat can become more visible after rubbing.
Use the layer specified for the powder system. A compatible no-wipe top or specialized rub-in gel must be cured according to its instructions. Under-curing may leave a soft, unstable layer. Excess curing may reduce the surface's ability to receive pigment. Do not assume that every no-wipe product has the same chrome window.

Remove loose powder before sealing
After the reflective layer is complete, remove loose pigment with a clean, appropriate brush or the method specified by the system. Pay attention to the sidewalls, cuticle perimeter and underside of the free edge.
Loose powder can interfere with the next layer and spread the effect into areas intended to remain matte or sharply isolated. Cleanup should not scratch the polished surface or push pigment onto skin.
Seal the perimeter without dulling the effect
A compatible sealing sequence protects the reflective layer from edge wear and top-coat separation. Depending on the approved system, this may include refining the perimeter, applying a bonding layer or using a specific top coat. Cap the free edge while keeping the finish balanced.

Control loose powder and uncured gel exposure
Work with ventilation and professional dust control. Avoid creating airborne powder, keep containers closed when not in use and prevent eye, skin and inhalation exposure. Follow the label and SDS for each product.
Chrome application does not change the exposure rules for gel. Keep every uncured layer away from skin and remove accidental contact before curing. Clean tools and the workstation according to the product and salon protocols.
Build a repeatable chrome workflow
Record the base shade, receiving product, lamp, cure time, powder, applicator and sealing sequence for every approved sample. Photograph the result in consistent lighting. At the client's next appointment, note whether wear began at the perimeter, free edge or within the coating.
