Choose a compatible builder gel system
Not every product sold as builder gel is intended for every extension length or dual-form technique. Confirm the manufacturer's approved use, maximum practical thickness, compatible base if required, lamp specification and cure schedule. Do not combine a familiar lamp with an unfamiliar gel merely because both are described as LED products.
Viscosity affects placement but does not prove cured strength. A controlled, self-leveling gel may spread cleanly inside the form, while a more stable gel may preserve deliberate structure. Assess the natural nail before choosing a form
Observe the nail from top, side and free-edge views. Record the sidewall direction, transverse curve, growth direction, existing asymmetry, available attachment area and the leverage created by the requested length. A form that looks correct from above can still create an excessive downward slope or a hollow lower arch.
Do not apply enhancement product over visible infection, inflammation, open tissue or an unexplained nail change. Refer the client to an appropriate medical professional when the condition falls outside cosmetic service scope.
Select and prepare the dual form
The selected form should span sidewall to sidewall without compressing the lateral folds. Its centerline should align with the finger and its curve should allow the planned structure without creating a thick free edge. When the nail falls between sizes, use the manufacturer's permitted fitting method rather than choosing a smaller form that pinches.

Pre-fit every form before preparation products are applied. Marking a target length can improve consistency, but the molded lines are guides rather than proof of symmetry.
Place builder gel for architecture, not volume
Prepare the natural nail according to the complete product protocol, keeping dust, oil and uncured material away from skin. Place gel inside the form with enough product to connect the cuticle transition, stress area, sidewalls and free edge. Avoid whipping the brush through the gel, which can introduce air.

Seat and align the form without forcing it
Approach the nail at the angle appropriate to the form system and lower it with controlled pressure. Excess pressure can squeeze the stress area empty, force gel into the folds or change the extension angle. Too little control can trap a large air pocket.
Before curing, inspect the centerline from above, the upper arch from the side and the lower arch from the free edge. Clean uncured gel from skin immediately using the product-system procedure. Do not cure material that has touched living tissue.

Cure the full structure safely
Follow the exact gel and lamp instructions. Dark pigment, excessive thickness, incorrect lamp output or an obstructed angle can prevent complete polymerization even when the surface feels hard. A brief flash cure may stabilize placement only when the manufacturer permits it; it does not replace the required full cure.

Remove the form and refine deliberately
Release the form according to its design after the required cure. Do not pry aggressively against the natural nail. Inspect the internal surface for voids, uncured material or missing sidewall structure before proceeding.
Refinement should correct small irregularities, not rescue a fundamentally misplaced extension. Establish the free-edge shape, sidewall alignment and surface transitions while preserving the planned apex. Remove filing dust completely and finish with compatible products.
Photographing top, side and end views is useful for training because it exposes asymmetry that a single beauty angle hides. At maintenance, compare the returned structure with the service record rather than judging only the fresh set.
