Prepare a surface that can reflect cleanly

Finish the underlying architecture before applying chrome. Refine ridges, remove dust and apply the base color evenly. A reflective effect makes surface defects easier to see, so chrome should not be used to hide incomplete finish work.

Set up the complete chrome system before starting

Place the selected base color, receiving gel, chrome powder, dedicated applicator, cleanup brush, bonding layer when required, top coat and compatible lamp within reach. Reserve clean tools for each stage. The applicator should not contain oil or another pigment, and the cleanup brush should not return loose powder to the perimeter. Keep jars closed when they are not in use and prevent airborne dust from settling on the receiving surface.

Create or review a labelled swatch made with the exact combination. Chrome color, density and shift cannot be judged reliably from an open jar. If the client changes the base or finish, show the corresponding tested swatch rather than promising that the result will remain identical.

Use a surface-quality standard

Inspect the nail from the top, side and free edge before color. Chrome reflects surface geometry, so ridges, dips, dust and thick edges become more obvious after pigment is polished. Correct architecture and refine the surface before beginning the effect layer.

Touch a small amount of pigment to several points rather than depositing a large pile in one area. Spread it across the surface, then polish with overlapping movements. Maintain enough contact to align the effect without scratching or displacing the receiving layer.

Use the curve of the applicator to reach sidewalls and the perimeter without contacting skin. Turn the finger instead of forcing the tool into a hidden area. Inspect in angled light and compare both sides. Add a minimal amount only where reflection remains incomplete.
