Dual forms are a molding system, not automatic architecture
A dual form is filled with extension material, placed over the prepared natural nail and removed after curing. Its internal surface creates the visible upper surface of the enhancement. Unlike a full-cover tip, the plastic form does not remain as part of the finished nail.
This molded approach can make the upper arch smooth and reduce surface filing. It can also repeat the same mistake across ten nails when the selected form, product amount or placement angle is wrong. The form supplies a geometry; the technician decides whether that geometry fits the nail and service.

Assess the natural nail before opening the form box
View the nail from above, from the side and through the free edge. Note width, sidewall direction, transverse curve, longitudinal growth, asymmetry, free-edge condition and available attachment area. Then compare those facts with the requested length and shape.
A downward-growing nail may need a different form angle from a flat nail. A pronounced natural C-curve may not fit a shallow form without voids or pressure. A trapezoid nail can require additional width near the free edge even when the cuticle area looks narrow.
Do not extend nails with pain, open tissue, inflammation, suspected infection or an unexplained abnormal change. Nail products do not diagnose or treat disease.
Select the correct dual form
A correct form spans sidewall to sidewall without pinching the lateral folds. Its centerline aligns with the finger, and its upper and lower curves support the planned result. Printed sizes vary by form family and are not universal measurements.

Choose material by behavior and approved use
Builder gel can self-level inside the form and create a smooth surface, but the technician must control movement and product mass. Acrygel generally stays where it is pressed and may provide a longer placement window, but it requires deliberate spreading and can become bulky when overloaded.

Plan apex, sidewalls, C-curve and free edge
The upper surface can emerge glossy while the structure remains wrong. Evaluate the apex in relation to length, shape and growth direction. Connect it gradually to the cuticle transition, sidewalls and free edge rather than creating one isolated high point.
Sidewalls should support the chosen shape without becoming excessively narrow or flared. The lower arch must be clean and structurally appropriate, not filled by uncontrolled product. The free edge requires enough material for the system and length without a heavy downward mass.

Distribute product inside the form
Place enough material for contact with the prepared nail and reserve structural volume for the stress area. Thin the product toward margins while maintaining continuity. Avoid aggressive stirring that introduces bubbles.

Seat the form without squeezing out the architecture
Approach at the angle specified for the form and material system. Lower the form with controlled pressure. Excessive force can empty the stress area, flood skin and create a paper-thin free edge. Insufficient or uneven placement can trap air and twist the centerline.
Before curing, inspect from three views. From above, confirm the centerline and sidewalls. From the side, confirm extension angle and apex transition. From the end, confirm lower arch, corner symmetry and product distribution.
Remove any uncured product from skin before curing. A clean cuticle outline does not excuse sidewall contact hidden by the form.
Cure the complete extension as one verified system
Follow the exact product and lamp instructions. Dense pigment, excessive product depth, an opaque form, incorrect lamp output or poor finger position can compromise cure. A flash cure, when approved, stabilizes placement but does not replace the required full exposure.
A hard surface is not proof that material underneath polymerized correctly. Do not improvise with a different lamp because it advertises higher wattage. Photoinitiators require suitable wavelength and energy under the tested conditions.

Remove the form and refine only what is necessary
Release the form according to its design after the complete cure. Do not pry against the natural nail. Inspect the interior for uncured material, voids, missing sidewall product and excessive lower-arch bulk before moving to finish work.
Correct the free-edge shape, sidewall direction, cuticle transition and any surface imbalance while preserving the planned apex. Heavy corrective filing indicates that form fit, material amount or placement should change in the next application.

Do not change every product and technique variable at once. Photograph the failure, identify where it began and make one evidenced correction when safety permits.
Maintain and remove dual-form extensions by material type
Once the form is removed, maintenance is determined by the cured material, not by the fact that a dual form was used. Natural-nail growth shifts the apex forward and increases free-edge leverage. Rebalance the structure, remove all lifting and reduce unsuitable length.
